Pampered.com.au sends Teddy Bears to overseas orphans
People from across Australia responded overwhelmingly to the call to donate teddy bears for Christmas to less privileged children in Brazil, India, Ethiopia and Cambodia. They are now flying on their way due to the kindness of a Gold Coast businessman.
Pampered Director Tara Castle got the idea after seeing a movie about orphans in Russia.
“We are so lucky in Australia. My son had so many toys I doubt he will miss the ones that I sent overseas! I am hoping what we have done will make a difference in the lives on children less fortunate than ours,” Ms Castle said.
Pampered.com.au is a Brisbane-based, new business established in mid 2007 as Australia’s first free pampering and indulgence website and was primarily responsible for sending about 1,000 donated teddy bears to orphans overseas.
As well as launching the brand new website, Pampered.com.au is an online resource for all things pampered. The Pampered.com.au team collected, tagged and boxed the teddies to designated orphanages suggested by Australians with contacts in third world nations.
Pampered.com.au undertook this project with an investment education firm based on the Gold Coast; Wealth Built, to get these bears overseas in time for Christmas.
Managing Director of Wealth Built, Mr Neil Hart, responded to ABC radio 612 radio interviews when Ms Castle spoke about the project and called for a sponsor for shipment of the bears overseas. Mr Hart said he liked to do something different each year and this was something special he would happily support.
Ms Castle said, “It is particularly exciting as the bears will reach the children in time for Christmas. These kids may not have even known that it is Christmas and we hope the children, in some small way, feel loved”.
She said it was a huge logistical effort collecting, storing, and tagging all of the bears. Luckily, Pandemonium Café in Paddington was one of many businesses which came to the rescue and offered storage space, support and countless cups of coffee, as the Pampered.com.au office was getting cramped!
They decided the bears should be re-named with “Australian names” such as Bruce, Shane, Kylie and an individual message was attached to each bear translated into the local language which said “Hi my name is Bruce, I am your friend and I will love you forever”.
Pampered.com.au are still sending a further two shipments overseas in early 2008, one to Ethiopia and another to Cambodia.
Pampered.com.au mission is founded on being a good corporate citizen and actively seeks innovative and unique ways of giving back to their community. Pampered.com.au is ethically driven and a believer that everyone deserves to be pampered!
Pampered.com.au was launched in October when it hosted a Breast Cancer Dinner for YWCA Encore program and an after-care breast-cancer charity. It raised more than $3,000. It helped provide a new service at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s and Ipswich’s Hospitals.
Pampered.com.au’s unique features include a gift voucher program, last minute service, innovative advertising opportunities, plus a news and e-newsletter service, all backed by a expert team of online marketers who will ensure that businesses listed on Pampered.com.au reach the lucrative online beauty consumer.
Ms Castle said, “We are heavily focused on engine optimisation and online marketing, which is one of the main reasons we are already ranked in the top 10 with Google.com.au on some key search terms. This means whenever someone searches for popular pampering services in Australia, Pampered.com.au is consistently coming up in the top 10 sites listed. This results in significantly more internet traffic coming to our site and to the businesses listed on it.”
